This very rare English coin scale was made by Anscheutz & Co, London, around 1765, to weigh ten of the eleven coins in the Long Set, which included the gold g...uinea and the Portuguese gold moidore and johannes and their subdivisions, all of which were circulating in Britain at that time. It has a lacquered brass frame, silvered dial and circular copper pan. It is hinged at the base of the shaped mahogany box and when erect is 5.3 in height.
