HOW TO PRICE YOUR VINYL COLLECTION? If you are reading this article probably you have a vinyl collection and have no idea of how much your vinyls are worth. This is a small guide you can use:... 1) general info Most of the people think that the more is aged a vinyl the most is valued. It's 90% of the time not true. The value of a vinyl depends of the number of copies were pressed and how much is collected the artist itself. Artist like PINK FLOYD, BEATLES, ROLLING STONES ....and so on...are very collected so if you own a vinyl of them could have some value. Later will talk about original pressing and re-editions. Inside very collected artist discography there are some vinyl very hard to find cause pressed in few copies when released and more common items cause they sell million copies. For example DARK SIDE OF THE MOON of PINK FLOYD sold million of vinyl all around the world so in 99% of the case all release are very common, except for the first UK edition cause was pressed in few copies respect later issue. Usually the most valued items are the first albums or the one who sells few copies. For example many progressive bands have released 1 album with bad distribution and sold many times less than 1000 copies...this lp's now are worth hundreds and thousand of dollars cause are very hard to found and many people want to buy it. 2) condition of the vinyl The condition of vinyl, cover and inserts/posters are very important cause affect the value of the vinyl. Usually an item in bad condition is sold only if the vinyl it's very hard to found and value could be until 10% of same vinyl in mint condition. For example the 1st album of Beatles when was released nobody expect it sells too much...so after first release (the most valued) start to re-print and nowadays still sell new editions. Sometimes re-issue are worth too cause they have some differences from original release, different number of songs or different cover 4) regular or limited edition pressing Limited edition pressing are usually vinyl released in a fixed number of copies, 100, 500, 1000, 5000, 1000 etc etc Here to the value depends on number, condition and artist. A limited edition could be values a lot of money 5) demo, promo or acetate Same as above DEMO , PROMO and ACETATE are editions used for radio promotion or press and not for commerce, even the songs are the same of a regular issue. 6) picture disc, shaped disc, coloured vinyl this items too are usually limited editions and released in few copies and most of them are worth more than $50 depends as always from the artist.
